SYMPOSIUM
BASSOON
NORDIC

Over the weekend of September 29 to October 2. 2016,

we will redefine the Nordic Bassoon Symposium

Sarah Warner Vik
-Principal Bassoon of the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra and bassoon teacher at NTNU in Trondheim
Eirik Birkeland
Associate Professor at the Norwegian Academy of Music and former Associate Principal Bassoon of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra

Per Hannevold and John Miller, Principal Bassoon of the Bergen Philharmonic and Principal Bassoon Emeritus of the Minnesota Orchestra, will for the 21st time present the Nordic Bassoon Symposium at the Grieg Academy in Bergen.

Honorary guests will be Sarah Warner Vik, Principal Bassoon of the Trondheim Symphony Orchestra, and Eirik Birkeland, Associate Professor, and former Associate Principal Bassoon of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. Both are seasoned performers and teachers.

The reason for this collaboration is the «Endangered Bassoon» movement we want to be a part of. Statistics tell us that our beloved instrument will disappear if we do not improve recruitment. We will work to promote various forms of cooperation with existing band and orchestra organizations all across Norway.

«Young Bassoonists 2026» will be the name of this new nationwide organization that will be officially launched on Saturday October 1.

Did Ole Bull play the bassoon?
